Home Staging is not decorating or design. Interior Decorating and/or Design is personalizing based on the homeowner's taste, lifestyle, and functionality needs. Home Staging is DE-personalizing and preparing the home for an un-known buyer. Key to Home Staging is hiring someone with training specifically on how to prepare a house for sale.
Some Home Staging Myths
Myth 1: This is a HOT market- I don't need to stage my home
Fact: Staged homes can sell for more, even in a hot market. Don't leave money on the table.
Myth 2: Home Staging costs too much
Fact: Home Staging is an investment in getting the house sold and the investment in staging is always less than a price reduction. A trained professional can work within a sellers timeframe and budget.
Myth 3: My listing agent will have to pay for the home staging
Fact: Many listing agents are trained in home staging and will provide this marketing tool as part of their service. However, not all agents are trained/certified in home staging. Be sure to ask. Also, sellers pay for large scale projects and are willing to do so once they understand the benefits and value.
Myth 4: I can just watch one of those shows and do it myself
Fact: Shows give sellers the idea that they need to do something to their house to prepare it for sale, but sellers cannot truly be objective in a house they have been living-they need a Certified Professional to help them get the most for their home.
